I'm surprised that I can't find Willie's age as I used to train with him and helped him a bit after I retired.
Whilst searching for references to him I found an article that I wrote in 2004 about the Bradford 50km which used to draw the biggest crowds for any race in the country. The finish in Peel Park in front of hundreds of people was special, although I never did try the victory salutes that are so popular these days.
